Manali to Leh Cycling expedition is an opportunity for you to challenge your self and test the limits of your endurance and will power..

This is one of the most difficult yet sought after routes by cyclists all around the world due to the fact that the route traverses through some of the worlds highest motorable passes and some spectacular upper Himalayan landscape.



Format of the Ride

The Expedition can be done by seasoned and amateur riders. The tour has 10 days of total ride. Riders will be crossing 5 high altitude passes –– Rohtang-La 3979m . Baralacha-La -4,890 m, Naki-La– 4442mts, Lachung-La- 5065 & Tanglang-La ithe 2nd highest motorable pass @ 5328mts/ 17480 feet

This is a difficult terrain to ride and therefore we recommend this for riders who are physically fit to endure the challenges of riding in the high altitude with an approx of 35 to 80kms per day over 10 days of riding. The combination of climb-weather-altitude makes this a unique and fun challenge.

How to Reach

The start point of the event is Manali. The nearest Airport is Bhuntar(Kullu) 50 kms and nearest rail head is at Chandigarh(350 km)/ New Delhi (585kms).
You can take the overnight Volvo bus from either Delhi or Chandigarh.

Weather

June & July are Pre- monsoon months in Leh and also the best time to visit . The days are hot with temperatures ranging from 20-30deg and nights are cold at 10-12 deg

Itinerary



Arrive in Manali


Arrival at Manali bus station/ Hotel, Our team members will greet you and help you with the process. You will be escorted to your hotel in Manali so that you can charge up for warm up ride.

 

Day 1: Manali to Naggar to Manali (40 km  2050 mtrs)

 

Time to unpack your bikes and get acclimatized to the mountains. After breakfast we will ride to nearby town “Naggar”. This warm up ride will also enable you to check out the local colourful culture of Manali. Let us know in advance if u fancy the local trails instead of the regular route. Later we will head back to Manali for bit of shopping.



Day 2: Manali to Sissu (88 km 2758 mtrs)

 

Ride starts with an epic climb to the first pass of the tour; Rohtang pass situated at 3988m. An early start is recommended to avoid the traffic. Here you will get enough time to capture the snow peaks in your camera and its all downhill from there. You will officially enter the Lahoul valley while negotiating a couple of streams crossings. We should reach Sissu before evening where you will get to relax into pre-booked hotel/guest house/ Swiss Tent.



Day 3: Sissu to Jispa (59 km  3200 mtrs)

 

You will observe the tree line fading away from today. The terrain becomes rough and dusty while sun becomes wild. The silence in these big mountains is a different trip which you all must experience while cracking out the surroundings filled with high Himalayan ranges. Over Night stay at hotel/guest house/ Swiss Tent.



Day 4: Jispa to Zingzingbar (35 km 4100 mtrs)

 

By this day you will be tough and ready to face the wicked Himalayan terrain while heading to Zingzingbar. Don’t mistake it for a party base though. You will spot many food shacks and people working in harsh conditions while you head to the campsite located at the base of Baralachala.



Day 5: ZingzingBar to Sarchu (50 km 4255 mtrs)

 

Yet another climb to Baralachala {4918m). It’s not easy as the climb is packed with loose gravel, rocks and no vegetation at all. You will be surprised to see tough road workers living and working in this area. The ride after the pass becomes pleasant as gravity pulls you most of the time till you reach our camp site at Sarchu. This silent campsite is surrounded by a grand view that you can check out on your foot or bike.



Day 6: Sarchu to Whiskeynallah (56 km 4750 mtrs)

 

The day starts with a ride on smooth road which soon turns into thrilling climb on 21 hairpin loops known as Gata loops through which you will reach Nakeela pass (4920m). The downhill ride from pass to our next campsite located at Whiskey Nallah is thrilling and packed with epic landscape all the way.



Day 7: Whiskey Nallah to Tsokar (82 km 4835 mtrs)

 

Today’s target is to reach one of the best campsite in entire trip. Tsokar lake which is a beautiful salt lake in the Rupshu plateau and valley in the southern part of Ladakh. To earn this you need to cross Lachalungla (5077m). And descend to Pang which is a mysterious looking place. After finishing the climb from Pang to Moray Plains, you will be surprised to see a great quality road here which will lead to the campsite.



Day 8: Tsokar to Lato (83 km 3600 mtrs)

 

Wake up early to the most challenging day of the tour. The altitude keeps on increasing with the Oxygen level. The continuous climb to Taglangla, the second highest motorable pass in the world is not easy. The pass is situated at 5328m. Once you reach here, you will forget the struggle and will be rewarded with breath-taking views of the Himalayan and Karakoram range. The descent from Taglangla is another epic session.



Day 9: Lato to Leh (85 km 3600 mtrs)

 

The day starts with lot of excitement as you will be reaching Leh and enjoy modern facilities- especially hot shower. The ride distance is long but not too difficult. You will be riding along with the Indus river. The remaining ride is calm and surrounded by Ladakhi and Tibetan culture.



Day 10: Leh to Kharadung La to Leh (39 km 3600 mtrs)

 

Last riding day to Khardungla at 5358m and is arguably the world’s highest motorable pass. This is yet another challenge in this tour but after all these days you will be more than happy to conquer the last stop. Descending back to Leh is good fun and officially the finishes the bike tour with yet another celebration night in the town.



Day 11: Checkout of Hotel by noon

Part Payment Option

  • 100% payment to be deposited 30 days before the trip starts - 
  • 20% at the time of booking
  • 30% within 45 days of the start
  • 50% 30 days before the Expedition start
  • Final Confirmation will be provided on full payment
  • If the second and third instalments are not paid by the due dates, the booking will be cancelled
  • The advance payment is non refundable

 
Full Payment Option

  • 20 % Cancellation charges if cancelled before 29 days before the tour
  • 25% cancellation charges if cancelled within a 20 days before the tour
  • 50% cancellation charges if cancelled within a 10 days before the tour
  • No refund for tour starting within 10 days of tour or after starting or middle of the tour

If we will not be able to meet the desired minimum pax for the expedition (you can choose any of the options):

  1. We will give you an alternate date
  2. We will refund the 100% amount
  3. We will charge the extra differential depending on the number of the confirmed pax and we will run the expedition

Rules & Regulations

  • The rides will happen only in day light and  Cycleit reserves the right to call off the ride for riders who are unable to reach the destination before sunset. Or find them unsuitable for a ride or find weather conditions unsuitable for riding.
  • It is mandatory for all riders to wear helmets all through the ride
  • Though the rides will be  riding only in daytime, its advisable for the cyclists to wear reflective vests, carry front & rear lights and a warning horn/bell/whistle  just in case of overcast sky/fog conditions.
  • All riders are required to honor Laws & customs of the land
  • Drinking / drug abuse /any other intoxicants during or afterward of the ride is strictly prohibited
